Winning tradition
Winning isn’t everything. But Nebraska Wesleyan’s scholar-athletes make winning look easy.
- 12th in nation in Academic All-Americans
- 6th in Div. III for athletes winning NCAA postgraduate scholarships
- 23 GPAC all-sports championships in the last 27 years
- 2006 NCAA Div. III men’s golf national champions
- 2008-09 Accomplishments:
- Five conference championships
- 12 top three conference finishes
- 10 All-Americans
- 131 GPAC Pfieger-Olsen Scholar Athlete Award winners
(for 3.3 GPA after at least three semesters)
Athletic scholarships?
Of all the schools in the GPAC (Great Plains Athletic Conference), we’re the only one that doesn’t award athletic scholarships. (That’s because we’re dually affiliated NAIA and NCAA Div. III.)
And yet we practically own the GPAC all-sports trophy. How’s that work?
The short answer: Our academic scholarships attract smart athletes.
“When I learned Wesleyan doesn’t give out athletic scholarships, I thought that was going to be a problem. But their academic financial aid is so good that Wesleyan’s bottom line was comparable to the schools offering me both athletic and academic scholarships.”
- Ryan Thramer, senior, basketball
Give a smart athlete great coaches, facilities and teammates, and that student-athlete will do well. It’s a winning formula.
