Seniors
Now college is really just around the corner. Don't let stress get in the way of your excitement. Stay on top of things and you'll have nothing to be stressed about.
Fall
- Select your top three to five schools.
- Make a list of all their deadlines.
- Take or retake the ACT and/or SAT.
- Invite your parents to come with you to a college fair and talk with college representatives.
- Schedule campus visits on weekdays while classes are in session.
- Keep up your extracurricular activities.
- Apply to your top choices. Don't wait for the deadlines. Get in early while the financial aid pot is still full.
- Apply for outside or local scholarships.
Winter
- Create a résumé of your academic, athletic and work activities and achievements. Prepare a portfolio if you're interested in the arts. This will help when you apply for colleges and scholarships.
- Complete the Free Application for Federa Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible after January 1. You and your parents must complete your taxes before submitting the FAFSA. Be sure to include the codes for the colleges you're considering. Nebraska Wesleyan University's code is 002555.
- Visit campuses.
- Take Advanced Placement (AP) tests if you qualify.
Spring
- Take Advanced Placement (AP) tests if you qualify.
- Submit your high school transcript to the colleges to which you've applied.
- Evaluate scholarship and financial aid packages your colleges offer.
- Choose a college based on your wants and needs.
- Return necessary forms and deposits to your college (housing, medical, roommate-selection forms, etc.)
Summer
- Enjoy your graduation. Have some fun.
- Earn some spending cash.
- Buy stuff for your residence hall room.
